Nissan Skills Foundation has partnered with Autodesk and VEX Robotics to offer 32 VEX IQ Challenge KITS free of charge* to local schools in the area! These KITS are open to both PRIMARY and SECONDARY schools. The VEX IQ Challenge provides students ages 8 through to 13 with an exciting, open-ended robotics challenge that enhances STEM skills through teamwork, critical thinking and hands-on learning. Using the VEX IQ kit, the teams have to research, design and build a robot to compete in each year’s competition, an engineering challenge in the form of a game.
We launched this event last year with 19 teams taking part in the tournament. The event was so successful we will now have 52 teams competing.
The 2019 – 2020 VEX IQ Challenge Next Level has been released and can be found here - VEX IQ Challenge Squared Away and the new VEX Robotics Competition ‘Tower Takeover’
The dates for the Nissan tournament are : 8th and 9th January 2020 (each school will attend 1 day only). There will be a winner from both events.
Nissan will offer a number ‘Drop in Help’ sessions with a VEX trainer leading up to the events, for any schools needing help or assistance.
The VEX Final will be held around March 2020 (date to be confirmed) and our winning teams from each tournament will attend. Nissan will assist the winning teams with transport costs.
If you are interested in applying to take part in this fantastic initiative, please complete the attached ‘Expression of Interest’ form and return to: NissanSkillsFoundation@nissan-nmuk.co.uk and we will then confirm if you were successful (please note this may be after the Summer break).
Please note there will be a teacher training session for the 32 successful schools on Tuesday 10th September, 1:30pm – 4:30/5:00pm to be held at the following venue:
Gateshead College (Sasmi)
This venue is adjacent to the Nissan plant (opposite main security gate).
The kits will be given out at the session. Therefore please check your diary to check you will be available to attend before you apply. This will be the only launch event.
The session will be ran by Vex Robotics.
The Kits will be allocated to schools on a ‘first come first serve’ basis. We are expecting a huge demand for this as we are inviting primary schools and secondary schools, so I do apologise now if your school is unsuccessful. You will be informed either way at start of next term.
*The kits will be loaned to the school FOC on the basis they will attend the tournaments. If they do not attend, or withdraw from the event, the kit will be collected and redistributed to another school.
